From the night before, on the 24th,
Young minds alight with excitement,
They need to sleep but they try to fight it,
Wrapped up in expectations,
Of the annual celebrations,
So many things to adore,
But there's one thing that means much more,

We push through the shuffling crowds,
Through the same shops in every town
Hear the same songs in every shop
Can we please pay Mariah to stop?

Grey slush in the gutter gets your socks wet,
Yet Another Lynx Africa box set
Meaningless gifts only benefit business,
They are not the true meaning of Christmas


The plastic tree that the cat has eaten bits off
The festive episodes of all the crummy sitcoms,
Each year the dinner is increasingly fancy,
You hear your Mum swear like she's Gordon Ramsey
Interrupting in the middle of a long rant,
"You really shouldn't use that word anymore, Gran"

Another year over, and it wasn't our best,
Our strength and resilience was put to the test
The world we live in's looking scarily different,
But the one thing, that's always consistent,

Ha! You all thought I was gonna get religious
The season needs a reason and I think I found it,
